On his thirteenth birthday, Ray Davies of The Kinks was given his first guitar from his sister, Rene. After the two of them played a few songs together, Rene left to go dancing at a London ballroom and died in the arms of stranger. Davies saw the guitar as “a great parting gift” and wrote the song “Come Dancing” as a tribute to his sister.
